Muhammad Salah Acquitted in Federal Criminal Conspiracy Trial
On February 1, 2007, after a three-month trial and two weeks of jury deliberations, Muhammad Salah was acquitted of charges that he conspired to support terrorism by funneling money to the Palestinian group Hamas. Mr. Salah maintained that the money was intended to provide humanitarian and social aid to the Palestinian people suffering under Israel’s brutal occupation. The government’s case centered around a false confession Salah gave to the notorious Israeli GSS after they interrogated and systematically tortured him for 54 days. The verdict was seen as a major legal defeat for the Bush administration’s so-called war on terror and a remarkable victory by the Salah legal team of the People’s Law Office Mr. Salah was convicted of a lesser charge for giving false answers to questions in a civil lawsuit. He’ll be sentenced in June.
