On April 16, 2008, attorneys Joey Mogul and Ben Elson of People’s Law Office received a $125,000 jury verdict for Manuel Delgado, in an excessive force case filed in federal court.  This amount will be substantially increased when the attorneys petition the court for the attorneys’ fees to which they are entitled.  The case stemmed from an incident in October of 2004, where Mr. Delgado was working at the shoe store he owns and operates when Sheriffs deputies came into his store to execute a court order in relation to a divorce case.  While trying to understand what was happening, Mr. Delgado was grabbed, thrown to the ground, struck in the head and kicked repeatedly.  He spent six days in the hospital and suffered extensive injuries to his back and neck and had a torn ligament in his left biceps.  This decision will help Mr. Delgado cover his medical fees and recover from the traumatic experience and should serve as a sharp reminder to law enforcement personnel that they must respect the rights of citizens.
